Inline Regulator
Help! 1987 chevy suburban 1/2 ton not charging battery. New alternator, Battery, checked grounds.?
Wait so the Exciter wire is the one from the Battery to the Alternator? if so can i replace it with the same gauge wire from a stereo i used to have? also I know the alt is internally regulated but if the engine was old i got the alt for a 1987 (which is the second one that test fine on the bench,but bad on the truck) so it may be that i thought is was an 87 when in fact the engine is older and may have a external regulator. haha this stuff is confusing. but i cant figure which fuse would be for the alt so i replaced most of them with new ones. so are there inline fuses? I tighten, cleaned, and rewired the battery terminals and grounds. still no full charging.
the alternator needs power on the small red ornage wire to turn on and charge if the fuse is bad there is no power on this wire and the alternator will stay off
yes also running a cable from the battery to the screw in the back of the alternator is a good idea make it 8 or 6 gauge
